Ecco Up High

By Lauren

Last Sunday, Lindsay and I saw Ecco as we’ve never seen it before- which is pretty amazing since we are there all. the. time.

Yes, we are a frequent fixture at the bar (once right next to an actress who’s name rhymes with Shmarissa Schmomay!), grace the dining room regularly, and the patio might just be one of our favorite places in Atlanta.

But we’ve never seen Ecco from this angle:

Yep, Sous Chef Justin Jordan gave us a personal tour of Ecco’s roofdeck garden!  I can’t say that we were dressed 100% appropriately for the adventure, but I CAN say we stepped up to the challenge.

Hi, Lindsay!

It was really cool to see fresh lettuce tomatoes, leaf basil, squash blossoms and Holstein Cowpeas…

Lettuce Leaf Basil

Squash Blossoms

Holstein Cowpeas

Moo!

…all grown right in the middle of Midtown Atlanta on top of one of our favorite restaurants!

Of course, the best part was later when all of this deliciousness ended up on our plates. Alongside the BEST gin cocktail in Atlanta:

Long Live the Queen

We were treated to amazing squash blossoms stuffed with mozzarella, anchovy, chili flakes, and basil emulsion…then breaded and lightly fried

super refreshing slow-roasted beets with peaches, pea tendrils and feta

and, as our main course, roasted poussin (that’s chicken, y’all) with peas, pancetta, radishes, and mint

My personal favorite all night was our side of field peas with pancetta and tarragon, finished with a drizzle of orange oil, but I forgot to take a picture because I was too busy swimming in them.

It was a spectacular meal – I didn’t think ANYTHING could pry me away from the goat cheese balls - but that squash blossom dish is a strong contender.

I hope you guys all run out and try their summer menu.  Maybe even ask for a tour of the roof garden!

Just a little word to the wise: if you go, don’t forget your flats.  And pants.

xx, L
