Return of the Terribly Absent Blogger…

Hello, everyone!  It’s me!  It’s me!  I’ve returned from my two month hiatus!

THANK YOU for allowing me that precious time for a little blog cleanse.  After over three years of almost constant blogging, I’ll be the first to admit that you can get burnt out when you overdose on things that you love so much (gelato, pizza, yoga, Real Housewives of any city, blogging), so I truly appreciate your patience with me.  The good news is that I’m officially back now and ready to fill you in on lots of exciting things going on in Atlanta!  Starting tomorrow, I’m back to the grind.  Today, I wanted to update you on what I’ve been up to over the past two months.

Kevin and I tied the knot in Atlanta!  It was an unforgettable weekend for us.

(Muscles brought to you by the amazing pilates reformer guru, Meredith Bass!)

We took an awesome trip to Arizona!  Here we are in Sedona…

At the South Rim of the Grand Canyon…

And relaxing at the Ritz-Carlton Resort at Dove Mountain.

We spent Thanksgiving in Jacksonville where we came in second place in a highly competitive family holiday cookie competition with these bad boys.  Brown Butter Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies (We were robbed, I tell ya!)

We traveled to beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica for Rosh’s wedding.

Then to Delray, Florida for our friend Jesse’s wedding.

And we celebrated the New Year in sunny Jacksonville Beach!

In between all of our traveling, we found time to eat.  A lot.

Drink.  A lot.

Relax.  A lot.

Experiment in the kitchen.  (Here’s the no-brainer peppermint bark recipe we used.)

Feed ducks.

Ride horses.

Drive boats.

Get together with good buddies.

Play with nail polish.

Hug some babies.

Get some dental work done.  (Sidenote: I really wanted this to be our holiday card, but I was vetoed.)

Watch an entire two seasons of HomelandTotally obsessed – more on that later…

And meet Charles Barkley!

Needless to say, it’s been a very busy past two months.  I’m rejuvenated now, and it feels so great to be back!  :)

Here’s to the Q+DD!  Here’s to 2013!  It’s totally gonna be a great one!

xx, L

The Sweetest Nail Salon in Town!

Although it’s not THAT new to the neighborhood (over a year old, I believe), I just visited Sugarcoat’s Virginia Highlands location for the first time this week + I am happy to report that it’s my new favorite Atlanta nail salon!

Typically, I opt for Lily’s Nails on Piedmont/Monroe, Polished on Peachtree/North Druid Hills, or Top Nails in Toco Hills for convenience and cost-effective regular nail services.  I also like the flexibility of being able to walk into any of these no-frills salons and get a service right away.  Sugarcoat, however, has officially changed my perspective.

Although it is slightly more expensive than my regular salons + appointments are requested, the atmosphere, selection of services, and customer service at Sugarcoat is definitely worth the $$$ and the effort to make an appointment.  Look at how pretty it is inside!  So sleek, modern, + clean.

It definitely does not look like a typical intown nail salon.

Sugarcoat offers a variety of services including waxing, massages, and eyelash extensions, but I focused on the hands/feet services during my first visit.  It was nice to see that they offer an Express mani/pedi for busy bees at a very decent price for a basic service ($12 mani/$25 pedi/$35 combo), but I had time during my visit and I opted for the Escape to Fiji services.  They were awesome – and worth every penny.  I highly recommend when you feel like treating yourself!

Escape to Fiji Manicure: Nail shaping, cuticle care, Pure Fiji Coconut Creme Scrub, ultra moisturizing Pure Fiji Coconut Body Butter massage.  $30.

Escape to Fiji Pedicure: A mini-vacation for tired feet!  Coconut foot soak, nail shaping, cuticle care, Pure Fiji Coconut Oil Exfoliating Sugar Scrub, gentle massage using warm stones and Pure Fiji Pineapple Scented Oil.  Tiny warm stones are placed between toes while they are polished to perfection.  (Cabana boy and pina colada not included…)  $50.

Escape to Fiji Combo: $75.  :)

Sugarcoat is totally hip, and although it’s not new to the Highlands, it’s newish to me – and I’m in LURVE!  I can’t wait to visit again for some serious pampering!

Snap, "Crackle" + Polish?

Late last year, OPI released a polish line in collaboration with Katy Perry.  The colors are exciting + bold, and look great under OPI’s Shatter polish which gives the nails a textured crackle effect.

Serena Williams’ OPI line looks awesome under Shatter, too.

And, here’s the effect:

It’s certainly not for everyone, but it’s a-okay by Fergie

..and of course, Mrs. Perry (Brand?).

LK + I swear by our nail salon, Lily’s Nails, on Piedmont + Monroe in the shopping center with RuSans + they’ve recently started using OPI’s Shatter.  Last week, when I was getting the OPI Axxium gel nails, Lily + another one of the technicians were trying it on themselves over various bold colors.  It looked really cool, I must admit, for the right time + place.  (Concert, Halloween, bachelorette party, etc…)

Here are some other crackle ideas:

What do y’all think??  It’s not for everyone, but whomever it IS for – I want to be friends with them…  :)
